with amber lee in one of the neighborhoods down there in san bruno. amber, what can you tell us. >> reporter: we're on san bruno avenue, this area is under evacuation order. we want to show you what the fire looked like, even just about an hour, hour and a half ago, the orange flow of flames is not a welcome sight as the fire continues to consume homes. many people told us they can't believe what they are seeing. right now i want to tell you that this is san bruno avenue. caution tape is up, they want to keep people from going beyond this point which is crest point and san bruno avenue. when we first got here, we were just above the hill. some of the people told me they were shopping. while we were on san bruno avenue, this is some of the flames we've been seeing tonight. take a look. the orange glow, again the orange glow is not a welcome sight for people who live in this area. many people told us simply that they are frightened, they are wondering what has happened to their neighbor, friends, relative who is live in the area. some were able to get ahold of loved one, others were not. let'

evening, i'm julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. the truck driver tells us that his brakes failed and he couldn't avoid smashing into the row of cars at the bottom of a freeway off-ramp. the accident happened at 4:15 this afternoon on the grand avenue exit ramp from eastbound i-80. ktvu's amber lee is live at the scene tonight with our report. amber? >> reporter: frank, this busy off-ramp remains closed as work hes clean up the debris. there was a lot of damage but few injuries. the truck driver who identified himself to us only as tony, says he was on his way home when the brakes failed. he said he had been hauling dirt in oakland. tony estimates he was going 45 miles per hour down the exit ramp when he couldn't stop his truck. he told us he scrambled to find a way to avoid hitting the vehicles in front of him. >> i was looking at that way, you know, the telephone poles and can't go that way. can't go up the hill. can't hit the side of the freeway. i had nowhere to ditch the truck. and i was just like, praying. >> reporter: the truck slammed into a honda causing a chain reaction.

us know what happened. tonight a father tells us his anyone is in describable. family and friends of 17-year- old raymond justice gathered for a quiet vigil in front of his home. he raised raymond as a single father. after seeing combat in vietnam, he never thought he would experience the horror of trying to save his own son on the streets of oakland. >> this is blood right here. i said that with the police, give him mouth to mouth resuscitation and his last breath came and i knew he was dead. >> reporter: last night around 6:30 he told his neighbors raymond ran to his home after he was shot at a nearby bus station. there was an altercation before the shooting. >> she was working with him on some of his homework and he was on his way home from that. >> the principal from the high school told us raymond had been receiving tutoring at oakland high shortly before the shooting. he was a junior with a 3.3 grade point average and planned to attend college. >> it's tough. i mean, you know, he is a kid that had a bright future. >> reporter: the students and staff at life academy have crea
